This season should be a good one for the Paton-Churdan Rockets girls track and field team.
When you look at the makeup of last year’s track team for the girls, youth is what came to mind. Last year’s squad had seven freshman and one sophomore with no juniors and no seniors. That is an extremely young team but also encouraging to see so many new faces hit the track for the first time.
So far this year, the roster includes Isabella Hirsch, Catarina Hobbs, Holly Miller, Kaliyah Minnihan, Alivya Smith, Ella Tasler and Lily Trecker, with all of these athletes being either a freshman or a sophomore, so another young squad will be fielded this year barring any other athlete additions to the roster.
The season officially kicks off for the Rockets, excluding the indoor season and meets at colleges, on March 31 with the Audubon girls Early Bird meet.
After that, the season will be more like a sprint than a distance race as the meets come one right after the other. While the team may be a young one, there is plenty of talent throughout the roster that should be able to make some noise and hopefully make the state meet and the Drake Relays.
